Friendship at Home is a proactive crisis intervention program that reaches into the community to help homebound older adults live with dignity and remain in their own homes. Through the use of volunteers and coordination of local community resources we address the multiple needs of our elders to avoid their premature isolation.

Telephone Reassurance

A simple daily phone call from a volunteer creates an important lifeline for an older adult who is homebound and alone.

Friendly Visitor

Be a ray of sunshine and brighten the life of an isolated elder by volunteering. As little as an hour a week spent visiting a new senior friend will become time for both to look forward to and enjoy.

Supportive Intervention

Seniors who may need individual help using community resources are prime candidates for short-term Supportive Intervention. Our professional team of Elder Service Specialists visit seniors in their homes, coordinating services and referrals.

What You Can Do

You can be the vital link needed to help an isolated older person in our community live with independence and dignity. Volunteers may:

  • Provide compassionate care through friendly visits to neighbors who are frail and lonely.

  • Offer transportation enabling homebound neighbors to meet their appointments.

  • Help with errands such as grocery shopping or picking up prescriptions.
  • Give family members a needed break from caring for their loved ones.

  • Check on a neighbor with a friendly daily call through Telephone Reassurance.

  • Support this program financially.

A Gift of Time

Many volunteers have remarked that this is the most rewarding work they have ever done. What seems like such a simple task - a phone call, a regular visit - may well be the support that keeps a senior healthy, engaged and able to remain independent.

Together we build a network, caring for our elders. The Friendship at Home program can bring a new dimension of meaning to your life by:

  • Providing personal satisfaction through helping others.

  • Forming new relationships with fellow dedicated volunteers.
  • Enhancing your own health by staying active and involved with your community.

  • Developing important friendships with people in need.
