Senior Friendship Centers

Senior Friendship Centers, Inc., established in 1973, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping older adults live with dignity and independence in Sarasota, Desoto, Charlotte, Lee and Collier counties. Funded in part by State and Federal agencies, and support from private foundations and individuals, Senior Friendship Centers serves more than 10,000 older adults annually.

One of the highlights of RISE, (Retirees in Service to the Environment, the new pilot program, was a visit to Oscar Scherer Park, where participants met the endangered Florida Scrub Jay up close. RISE inspires environmental stewardship, and how connection to nature affects the health and well-being of program participants.
Carter Library Dedication

Carter Library Dedication

Senior Friendship Centers President and CEO Robert Carter was on hand to dedicate the new library at The Friendship Center in Sarasota. Named for his parents, Frederick and Elizabeth, the library provides a quiet place to read and an interesting selection of books.

SFC Founder Named Humanitarian of the Year

Br. William Geenen, CSC, founder of Senior Friendship Centers, recently received the Oustanding Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The award honors his work in building support for programs and services which have helped older adults in Southwest Florida live with dignity and independence for more than 35 years.
