Feathered Friends
One of the highlights of RISE (Retirees in Service to the Environment) was a visit to Oscar Scherer Park, where participants met the endangered Florida Scrub Jay up close. RISE inspires environmental stewardship, and looks at how connection to nature affects the health and well-being of participants.The next course begins in March. For details call 941 587-5484.

Carter Library Dedication
Senior Friendship Centers President and CEO Robert Carter was on hand to dedicate the new library at The Friendship Center in Sarasota. Named for his parents, Frederick and Elizabeth, the library provides a quiet place to read and an interesting selection of books.

SFC Founder Named Humanitarian of the Year
Br. William Geenen, CSC, founder of Senior Friendship Centers, recently received the Oustanding Humanitarian of the Year Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals. The award honors his work in building support for programs and services which have helped older adults in Southwest Florida live with dignity and independence for more than 35 years.
